Desna Allen

Local Councillor, Desna Allen is standing for re-election to Chippenham Council in Sheldon Warrd in this year's local election.

I have represented the west of Chippenham for 22 years as a Town, District and Unitary Councillor. In that time, I have been a Governor at 2 local schools and served as a Trustee of Chippenham Borough Lands Charity for 16 years.

During the most recent election term I instigated the Town Council taking over the running of the Community Safety Forum from Wiltshire Council, and have chaired this multi-agency committee since its leadership came over to the Town Council 2 years ago. One of the successful projects from this group is the recent significant upgrade and improvements to the town's CCTV, which has made a positive impact on both deterrence and consequence of crime in the town.

During my time as a Town Councillor I have taken on many prominent roles, including 2 terms as Mayor and 3 years as Leader of the Council. I have also served on and chaired several committees during my long service as a Town Councillor. Most recently I have chaired the Amenities, Culture and Leisure (ACL) Committee and sat on the Strategy and Resources (S&R) Committee and the Human Resources (HR) Committee. I am pleased to have maintained an excellent attendance record for the Town Council's meetings, with 91% attendance over the last year, and have consistently voted on motions posed according to both the ethos of the Liberal Democrats and my own conscience. At every opportunity I have argued for and worked towards improving things for residents in my ward, and would very much like to continue to do so.

I am committed to providing the best possible environment for family life and to enable employment opportunities in Chippenham. I would be delighted to continue to speak up on your behalf for the next 4 years alongside a team of Liberal Democrat councillors across the town, both experienced and new to the Town Council.
